Game On

The weather shows no signs of letting up and neither do the teams!

The game is on so if you're attending be VERY safe or if you're going out at all for that matter. If you're lucky enough to have ESPNU hopefully the teams will put on a good show!

I may, or may not be back for gametime - it depends on where I end up to watch the game.

Hey, I was curious about the addition of Savard and another goaltender to the roster. I assume Savard was added to compensate for the temporary absence of vanRiemsdyk. I figured you would have the inside scoop. Also, what do you think of Butler so far this year and what do you expect from him for the remainder of the season?

I don't have any inside scoop as of yet but I will dig and keep my ears open and hopefully develop some connections as time goes on and I prove this blog as a legitimate source for UNH Men's Hockey news.

Scott Savard, a walk-on, has been with the team since at least last season. Though he has not played. There has been a trend, and I believe is the case with most programs, of having walk-ons on hand because of the dynamic of it and just in case.

Also I've yet to see anything else about the departure of Danny Rossman back to the USHL as indicated from the Ohio Jr. Bluejackets' roster and transactions pages. So I don't know if this is a factor either.

I was not aware of the addition of Stuart Fricke, a goalie from the University of Southern Maine. The St. Paul, Minnesota native was a 2003-2004 William Wise Scholar-Athlete Award Winners for the Huskies of USM. While the UNH roster has him listed as 6'0" and 185 USCHO has him at 6'4" and 182 in '03-04 when he was a freshman at USM. Someone has a typo or else he shrunk four inches in the intervening years. He actually played in France (Amiens) before USM. And consensus seems to suggest that he is 6'0". He is listed as a Senior on our roster.

This is all I found on his days in France:

It seems he recently turned 23. Happy Birthday man!

We'll see what else we learn. Hopefully we are not seeing an early departure from one of our treasured goaltenders.

Butler, I expected many good things from Bobby Butler this year and I don't feel that I have been disappointed. At this point he projects to score 21 points and I think that he gets better as the season goes on. Hopefully once the lines get settled we'll see everyone's production step up and beat the projection which puts him at nearly twice last year's contribution. I think we'll see him finish with somewhere around 30 points this year where he had just 12 last year with many of them coming at the end of the season. He is on the plus side of the plus/minus scale so that is a definite positive and he takes some of the fewest penalties on the team. What do you think?

Thanks for writing and be sure to speak up if you hear of any news that you feel is worthy to the program or just feel like discussing UNH men's hockey!

I was just reading and Savard is considered a practice player who is there in case of emergency and it would seem to me that the same could be said of Fricke in goal.
